The National Black Deaf Advocates, Inc. (NBDA) applauds the Gallaudet Presidential Search Advisory Committee (PSAC2014) for conducting a commendable presidential search process which has produced 3 outstanding women finalists. This historical event not only guarantees that the next Gallaudet University president will be a woman, but also that intersections of identify will be reflected in whoever eventually emerges as president of Gallaudet.

As the official advocacy organization for Black Deaf people in the United States, we are delighted to note the even more historical presence of a distinguished Black Deaf woman, Ms. Pamela Lloyd-Ogoke, among the finalists. No Black candidate for the University presidency has ever made it this far

Ms. Lloyd-Ogoke is respected within the various sub-communities which together constitute the Deaf community in the United States. Through her dedication to the mission of NBDA, and her tireless industry, she has been pivotal to the success of the NBDA –as President, Ms. Lloyd-Ogoke led efforts to develop collaborative relationships between NBDA and the National Association of the Deaf (NAD) and to advocate for equality and inclusion. Through her leadership, the NBDA’s Youth Empowerment Summit (YES) and Regional System were implemented. Not only that, her tenure as NBDA President was renowned as a period of financial success and growing membership, which has led to the emergence of many Black Deaf Americans in leadership positions. Today, Ms. Lloyd-Ogoke is recognized as President Emeritus of NBDA.

Without impinging on the qualities which the other similarly distinguished candidates bring, we as an organization believe Ms. Lloyd-Ogoke’s Presidency will rebrand Gallaudet as a global citadel of learning where everyone can pursue their dreams.  We are confident that Ms. Lloyd-Ogoke has the knowledge, skills, charisma and drive to effectively lead Gallaudet University into the future.
