South Carolina Black Deaf Advocates was established in the early 1990s as the 19th Chapter under the auspices of National Black Deaf Advocates and is a member of the Southern Region. South Carolina BDA became the first Chapter with a state name. In 2004, Miss South Carolina BDA Sophia McFadden won the Miss Black Deaf America.
