Scholarships
(Applications are not being accepted at
this time until further notice)
When NBDA was founded in 1982, one of its concerns was to strengthen
the educational and economic advancement of deaf/hard of hearing
African-Americans. That concern is still true of today, and one
of the ways NBDA is working on promoting educational advancement
is by providing educational scholarships to undergraduate and graduate
black deaf students and black interpreters-in-training. NBDA has
four scholarship programs:
- Andrew Foster
Scholarship, Gallaudet University: for Black deaf or hard
of hearing students with demonstrated financial need and a GPA
of 3.0 or better. Preference is given to those who demonstrate
a desire to advance the lives of Black deaf and hard of hearing
people.
- Y.E.S. Scholarship: educational scholarship for current and former participants
of NBDA's Youth Empowerment Summit (Y.E.S.) program.
Donate to the Scholarship Programs
The ability of the National Black Deaf Advocates to provide scholarships
to deserving students depends on you. Please give to the programs
that interest you.
- The NBDA Scholarships
Pledge Program. As of July 2003, NBDA has set up
an NBDA Scholarships Pledge Program in the efforts to generate
funds ready for distribution annually.
- The
Andrew Foster Scholarship (Enter "Andrew Foster" in search box) is intended for those enrolled
at Gallaudet University. The University maintains the funds and
the application process. To donate to this fund, please use this
