David Musa King


Mr. David King was born and raised in Ganawuri, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State. He first started his education at EKAN Primary School, Ganawuri. As a young boy of six years old, he mysteriously became deaf and his early elementary education was temporally interrupted for three years. During that time he was trained by his Grandpa to become a Shepard.

When his father learned of newly founded Plateau School for the Deaf, Jos, he was enrolled where he first obtained his elementary and Junior Secondary School education. He later moved to Methodist Grammar School, Bodija in Ibadan Oyo State where he completed his senior high school. Upon graduation, he went to Bible and Missionary Theological College Ikwa in Akwa Iboma State, south-southern part of Nigeria where he read Theology and Pastoral Studies for two and half years. He later settled in Port Harcourt where he started a Deaf Ministry. During his stays in Port Harcourt, he enrolled into Century Institute of Technology and Management where he obtained Associate Degree in Computer Programming.

In 1999, Mr. King moved back to his home state Plateau State where he aided in establishing Plateau Association of the Deaf as chairman of its constitution drafting committee. He is a household name in Nigeria deaf community. He served as pioneering Secretary General of Niger State Branch of Nigerian National Association of the Deaf. He also served as one time Chairman, Caretaker Committee for Nigerian Deaf Sports Federation based in Lagos. He was also elected as the National Public Secretary of Nigerian National Association of the Deaf, National Headquarter in Abuja shortly before he moves to USA in 2001.

Mr. King is married with two beautiful daughters namely Liatu King who is five years old and Precious King who is one year old. They reside in Washington DC USA, where Mr. King also studies at Gallaudet University. DMK as he is fondly called by his admirers and friends is a third year student doing double major in Political Science under Department of Government and Business Administration under the Department of Business. He expects to read Law or Public Administration during his postgraduate studies.

At Gallaudet University, he is also well known for his organizational leadership roles. He is currently student Senator representing Black Deaf Students Union in Students Congress. He is also elected as pioneering Recording Secretary of Organization for Equality of African Americans in Gallaudet University. He is best known on the Gallaudet campus as one of the few outspoken leaders of the new organization Coalition of Students of Color (COSC). As the Senate representative for BDSU, he was thrust in a highly visible leadership role during the recent 2006 Gallaudet protest in which he constantly addressed the persistent issue of systematic racism on the campus. It was an unpopular stance to take in this protest when audism was the most popular soundbite.

Mr. King was also former federal employee where he worked with the US Department of Defense in Pentagon. He was also federal contract worker with Melwood Inc where he worked as Quality Assurance Inspector, a position that require him to supervise more than 500 custodial workers in Naval District Washington at Navy Yard, Naval District Washington at Anacostia Annex, Andrew Air Force Base and Naval Research Laboratory in Washington DC.

In 2006, Mr. King did his internship with Plateau State Planning Commission, Jos for three months where he developed a new database program for the Commission.

His areas of interests are advocacy for deaf people and people with disabilities, entrepreneurship, and litigation.
