One accomplishment she was proud of was to get campus approval to establish a new “Deaf Social Club” at the college, where she ran as president for a year. She felt it was important to share with Deaf students the importance of Deaf rights, ADA, and advocacy for better access.
She recently graduated Wayne County Community College in 2007 a nd has been accepted into Gallaudet University for Deaf Education. She strongly believes in the slogan, "No child left behind" and that all of them can do it if they can believe it. While attending school, she decided to look for a job and I saw information about AmeriCorps- working for the AIDS/HIV project. She was hired and sent to work with DEAF Community Advocacy Network (Deaf C.A.N!) doing outreach, admission, and hotline work. After completing the AmeriCorps program, she became the second runner-up in the Miss Deaf Michigan Pageant this year.
She shared her best memories she recounted as a camping experience, “When we arrived on July 21, we were in complete shock at finding out that we couldn’t use our sidekicks, and that there was no showers, restrooms were outdoors, and we had to sleep in tents outside. But it gave us plenty of time to learn about each other better. Later one of our hosts played a game called "River of Stripes" and challenged our groups to carry ten logs!!! We were frustrated, sweating until soaked. They encouraged to think positive and to communicate with each other to figure out how to carry those ten logs. We struggled for three and-a-half hours before finally we made it! Camp was very challenging but rewarding!
