Kirsten Poston came to the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) in 1991 as an intern while a senior attending Gallaudet University majoring in Communication Arts. Kirsten graduated from Gallaudet University in 1992.
Kirsten suffered chronic ear infections at a young age, which lead up to her hearing loss at age 5. Kirsten was mainstreamed in the Philadelphia Public Schools.
Currently, Kirsten works as a Disability Policy Analyst in the Federal Highway Administration’s Office of Civil Rights. Kirsten’s responsibilities include drafting policy, conducting research, and preparing documents on specific disability policy issues. In performing these duties, Kirsten also serves customers and develops successful teams and coalitions within and outside the agency. Kirsten is the current Secretary of the DOT Secretary’s Disability Advisory Council.
Kirsten recently co-chaired the National Disability Employment Awareness Month ONEDOT Committee which was a very successful observance. Kirsten also is the President of DEAF/DOT, which is an employee organization that serves the deaf and hard of hearing DOT community at DOT. Kirsten is a member of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. and she continues to remain a strong advocate of the disability community and is very active in a number of departmental initiatives on issues related to the DOT disability community.
