Karin Davis
A resident of Tucker, GA, Karin Davis is the first Black to win the crown of Miss. Deaf Georgia. Lest you dismiss it as something not new under the sun, consider the fact that Georgia is among the more conservative Southern states which still refuses to do away with the Confederacy flag and old-timers thinking among the deaf membership under Georgia Association for the Deaf. She has kept her head up despite racial slurs thrown her way occasionally. Along with a few black deaf students, Ms. Davis is currently a student at Clark Atlanta University, one of the historically black colleges within the Atlanta University Colleges System.
