The Polo Ralph Lauren Foundation announced this last
Fall that they have selected the National Black Deaf Advocates (NBDA)
as one of the beneficiaries of their Polo Jeans Company’s
G.I.V.E. - Get Involved. Volunteer. Exceed. - Campaign.
Polo Ralph Lauren’s G.I.V.E. campaign is a call
to action, whose goal is to inspire and encourage community service
through volunteerism. The campaign was launched Fall 2003 and highlights
the work and dedication of exemplary individuals and the organizations
they volunteer for. Polo Ralph Lauren stated that these young people
"are inspiring leaders with integrity and commitment to a cause.
They have both style and substance, and work selflessly to improve
the lives of others."
In support of the campaign, Polo has introduced its
G.I.V.E. Jean. Ten percent of the proceeds from the jeans will benefit
the efforts of volunteers and their causes. Buyers of the jean can
decide where their "donation" can go by voting on POLOJEANS.COM.
"Volunteerism is an integral part of our lives
and the American culture. It’s important that a company like
Polo Ralph Lauren support these amazing efforts. We hope Polo Jeans
will help inspire others to get involved and make a difference,"
said David Lauren, Senior Vice President of Advertising, Marketing
and Corporate Communications.
NBDA became involved in this unprecedented campaign
when Vice President Claudia Gordon was selected as one of the volunteer
model for Polo G.I.V.E. Jeans. Gordon’s picture appeared in
several Magazines (Allure, Sept. ’03; Elle, October, ’03;
and Marie Claire, Nov. ’03) and was also seen on display at
various malls across the country including a billboard size poster
that appeared outside the popular New York City 34th Street Macy’s.
