Gordon Receives
Emerging Leader Award

Five emerging leaders in the disability community received the 2002 Paul G. Hearne/AAPD Leadership Award on March 4 at the AAPD leadership gala. The evening of award and recognition was held at the Washington Hilton and Towers, Washington, D.C. Attendees included AAPD members and other disability rights advocates, senior members of the executive branch, members of Congress, business and community leaders, and the media. NBDA Vice President Claudia L. Gordon, Esq., was among the five award recipients. A national advisory committee selected the award recipients from approximately 150 applicants. Each of the awardees received $10,000 to further his/her work in the disability community.

About the Award
The Paul G. Hearne Awards were established in 1999 by the Milbank Foundation for Rehabilitation and are now administered by AAPD. The awards were created to recognize and support emerging leaders with disabilities. They are names after AAPD’s founder and first President, Paul G. Hearne, an advocate known for his encouragement, guidance and passion for cultivating leaders throughout the disability community.
