The University of South Florida has one opening for a 9 month, Instructor, Level I, American Sign Language, in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. This position will teach undergraduate ASL courses, with the possibility of teaching in other content areas (deaf culture, linguistics, interpreting etc) and engage in service to the department, college, university, community and profession.
Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in ASL or Deaf Studies, or a Master’s degree in any field with current certification or eligibility to earn certification (ASLTA, RID or equivalent); at least two years teaching experience; native or near-native fluency in ASL.
Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in related field; credentials in related fields; at least five years’ experience teaching; experience teaching hybrid or online courses; experience teaching at post-secondary level; willingness to advise student organizations.
CSD has over 250 graduate students and 500 undergraduate students in four degree programs: Bachelor’s with three possible concentrations, Master’s in Speech-Language Pathology, Doctor of Audiology, and Doctor of Philosophy. The Department trains future professionals and serves the Tampa Bay community through the USF Hearing Clinic, USF Speech-Language Clinic, Bolesta Center at USF (Listening and Spoken Language Center), and Hands On USF (sign language interpreting service).
