Donald Tinsley, Sr., former NBDA Treasurer (2000-’02), received the 2012 Distinguished Leadership Award for his extraordinary contribution to advocacy. The award was presented by the Indiana Governor’s Council for People with Disabilities. Donald is a veteran community advocate. He became the first African-American president of the Indiana Association of the Deaf (IAD).

Donald also served as founder and president of the Indianapolis Black Deaf Advocates (now Indiana Chapter of Black Deaf Advocates).
